The Right to Bear Arms

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Vocabulary:

• infringed: encroached on, taken away or lessened

• militia: a military organization made up of citizens trained for service in times of a national emergency.

• regulated: adjusted to a particular standard

• security: freedom from risk or danger; to make safe
